Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex Mould has said he would like to be considered by former President John Dramani Mahama as his running mate for the 2020 general elections.
Political watchers and analysts say Alex Mould may be considered taking into account his resourcefulness and ability to exert some appreciable level of good economic management.
Mr Mould who is among other persons tipped for the Vice Presidential position slot on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress has indicated his readiness to gladly accept the offer if it comes.
In an interview on Joynews TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the one time boss of the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) said he has contributed significantly to the party in various ways including mobilising resources to support the party and former President John Dramani Mahama in his campaigns.
“Of course I’ll like to be considered. I believe I bring to the table quite a lot and I have a background and a skill set that can help,” he stated.
In a response to whether the grassroots of the party will accept his nomination for the position of running mate, he retorted: “I’m sure if the party accepts you, the grassroots will accept you”.
While championing his ability to fit into the position, he recounted his achievements in various capacities saying that “If you look at my pedigree, I have run organisations. I have been at the helm of running a profitable organisation. Standard Chartered Bank is an international organisation and I definitely did a good job there, moved to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) which was a bit more bureaucratic and I changed it into a high-performing organisation. And when I went to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), I did the same – I changed GNPC to become more of a project-led development organisation”.
Former President Mahama is set to name his running mate in the lead to the 2020 elections. Though many including some members of the NDC have raised concerns over the delay in outdooring a running mate, the party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has indicated the outbreak of the novel coronavirus significantly affected the timely nomination of the running mate.
